APSDA 2016

APSDA and the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), hosts of APSDA 2016, invite you to join them in Adelaide, South Australia, for a multi-disciplinary, creative and collaborative regional design experience.

APSDA 2016 is a multi-disciplinary design conference promoting shared understandings of design and space; engaging with the Asia Pacific region and regional South Australia; and actively engaging conference participants via various activities, design dinners, masterclasses, exhibitions and a dedicated student program.

The concepts of local, regional, family and home provide APSDA 2016 with its ethos and inform the entire fabric of the Adelaide event.  Everyone has a relationship to home and what they mean in terms of belonging, family, comfort, nurture, tradition, familiarity and gathering. They are deeply ingrained in our memory. The conference theme of home brings together the real and the ordinary from which, through design, the imaginative and the extraordinary transpires and resonates. 2016 APSDA Adelaide aims to explore the theme of home. The necessary counterparts of these concepts are creative collaborations of all kinds, building trust, empathy, and responsive engagement. Adelaide fosters and promotes collaboration. A small city, noted for its multicultural history and support for the arts it provides a special environment in which design connections can be made.

2016 APSDA Adelaide aims to build upon the significance of home and open up ideas of making, making do and making happen through a series of place-centred events including hosted design dinners, design expos, keynote speakers, panel sessions, cultural events, workshops and a program of tours and site visits and a dedicated student program.  APSDA 2016 will capitalise on Adelaide’s scale, its neighbourhood, its design community and its regions. The speaker program will include world renowned and nationally prominent multi-disciplinary designers who have positioned their practises around the theme of home in inspired and poetic ways.

home is being part of a place, a geography, a region. It is being a part of the Asia Pacific and part of a design community. home can be reflected in the objects we surround ourselves with and the things we use. home is the spaces we create.
